Raihan Rahman: Grad Student Spotlight

What degree are you working on? How long have you been studying in this program?
I've been working on a MA in TESOL since 2023.

What are your research interests?
My research interests include language testing and assessment, English for academic purposes, educational measurement, and quantitative research methods.

What are you working on right now?
I am working at the OEAI ( Oral English Assessment Interview) as a rater and interviewer and also a rater at EPT (English Placement Test). I will be starting teaching at the IEI (Intensive English Institute) from Fall 2024.

Why should someone study TESL at Illinois?

TESL extends beyond English teaching. My MA in TESOL provided a platform to develop skills in scientific language analysis, computer programming, and statistics for language data. It also honed soft skills such as communication, time management, coordination, and professionalism. This program offers a broader perspective on language and teaching.
